There should be more discourse on how religion poisons everything and makes a free society impossible. Instead we give religious people free passes every fucking day.

Honestly, I’m in a similar boat - people’s emotional support deities shouldn’t be any basis to regulate society - but we can’t ban them all together or you get theocratic separatists forming.

Religion and the state should be throughly separated, on all fronts. I doubt that will happen in our foreseeable future, unfortunately.

Yeah, you can’t ban religion, they absolutely love that. We should try to ignore it, shame it and generally treat it like the embarrassing and cringe abomination that it is, except when it manifests as pure hatred, misogyny and violence, then it should be swiftly condemned.

Even if you believe in a god, then he had a hand in making you this way.

Are you saying that your god makes mistakes, or that he’s willfully condemning a certain percentile of his own creations? Sounds like a shitty god.

And for the record, I’m Christian. Plenty of churches have found ways to square LGBTQIA+ with the scripture, as it says astoudingly little in regards to those topics especially compared to the amount of whining a lot of Christians do over it.

At the end of the day, my personal take: It’s not a sin.

    CHRISTIAN SOAPBOX ALERT

But even if you want to be an asshole who believes it is sin, the bible is very cut and dry that sin is sin and there isn’t differing “magnitudes” in the eyes of the Christian God. Congrats, you had some dirty thoughts about not your wife while married? Same magnitude as bombing an orphanage. Without Jesus both cases are doomed to hell.

So who the fuck are we to be running around going “your personal life details/sexuality/identity are more damning than my sins”? Jackasses, that’s who. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

In my experience they will just say that God made free will so you can burn in hell. It has to be a free choice to choose God and be saved. Which makes the Christian God sound like an egotistical maniac.

it’s pretty fucking funny how any time you take scripture literally you end up with god as either comically incompetent or miserable

I love that one time god killed a good portion of the israelite army because they were complaining about their situation, or that other time the israelites got owned because the enemy had iron chariots

I can’t understand how women could support that religion. The first Wife of Adam was banished for she had the audacity to be equal to the man, so God made Eve out of Adams rib forever being lesser than man.

FWIW, Lilith, the first wife of Adam, is Jewish folklore and not supported by any Christian texts.

Her name is not mentioned, but in Genesis first God creates man and woman at the same time as equals, but then it says Adam was alone and created a woman from his rib. So you can read that as two women being created at different points in time.

That is not necessarily what the text says.

Genesis 1 states that god created man and woman.

Genesis 2 is the detailed retelling of when he made man and woman.

Not that it has to be logically sound, it’s a myth after all. Anyone can interpret it in any way, and be just as correct as everyone else!

I read a comment thread, arguing that conservative women will accept a position in a society, that while it makes them lesser to men, it enables them to treat those they view as lesser how they want. So a cis, straight, white woman will be fine being treated as secondary to cis, straight, white man, as long as it allows them to yell at gay baristas and be mean to non-white waiters, things of that nature.

        Relatable.

I try not to be an asshole these days but when I was young, I was bullied a lot. This made me angry and bitter, for which I sought an outlet, and chose to vent that frustration by bullying others who I felt were “less than” me in some way.

Regretable, of course, but I can see how even if the cis white woman doesn’t choose the course in which they are deemed “less than” the cis white man, they may still accept it and begin to participate in / perpetuate the cycle.
