Yeah I am super confused, I just dumped my trash in one of these about an hour ago, and my family had one provided to us by the city in the early 2000s. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen these in TV shows from the 80s as well.

A road construction project within view of my old place could have been finished in 6 months, given the speed they set up 90% of it.

All that was left was a small ramp and a slightly curved road.

Then some locals found out that the plan for the surrounding fields (that had been untended and growing wild for almost a decade before hand) were going to be used for solar power.

Suddenly they became very concerned about proper land surveys and impacts, supposedly solar installations bring in crime, and all kinds of other stall tactics.

Well since they put the project on hold for over 5 years, the price of solar dropped a TON and when the bullshit finally got sorted, the solar field ended up being almost 3x the original intended power output.

And the only crime that has happened as a result is occasionally they have to replace some panels because some good old boys keep taking pot shots at the panels. Normal people might call that “domestic terrorism” and do something about it, but the local sheriff didn’t seem go care until their offices needed renovating and they had to shack up down the street.

Just a rambling way to say all the problems with the road projects around my area are caused by locals.

I honestly wonder when, if ever, we will get to the point that ICE is met with solid resistance that keeps pouring in and refuses to let them leave without shots being fired.

Yeah state parks, rangers, and anything that positively manages government land has always gotten the short end of the stick. The state police aren’t as militarily kitted out as some local PDs, at least in my experience.

A state park near where I grew up was basically begging for volunteers because they didn’t have the budget to take care of the park more than 3ft from the parking lot. (mild exaggeration, but you get the idea)

Okay I fully admit I am a reddit-fugee from the API announcement. I didn’t wait for the changes, I just Lore Ipsum/copy pasted dictionary definitions until my account was scrubbed, and deleted the account.

Even so, when I first showed up here, there were maybe 50 up votes on a post, max. That was the front page for the first weeks as people came from reddit, and eventually most left because it’s not as active here and 95% of people are lurkers who don’t even comment. Those 50 up votes were all it would get.

Now this post alone has 260 in its first 3 hours. And I’m sure it will continue to get views and votes all day.

I’m not sure how the tone has changed around here since 2020, but I like the vibes for the most part and if I don’t like a server, I can hop to another one, which I have done several times already.
