It has inherited this property from FORTRAN. There are, however, cases where Matlab starts indexing with zero and thus, these require extra caution.
I’m so sorry that you have to use Matlab. Hopefully, someday arrays will start at zero for you.
As a C++ programmer, Matlab has caused me pain and suffering because of this
