I have been doing things solo for years, it started off great, but it really starts to build on you that you have all these experiences but no one to share them with or talk about them or reminisc about them. So, for me at least, I’ve basically stopped doing solo trips because they just kind of make me sad at this point.

This reads more like someone who’s been hurt than someone with a good point. I’m sorry for them, but I’ve done solo stuff and I generally prefer to do those things with my friends. Sharing the experience is a big part of it.

I love my friends, I love my husband, but sometimes I just want to do things solo. It’s not better or worse, but it is different.

And that’s totally fair, but it’s the “you’ll never have to wait on anyone” vibe that reads so strongly as this person’s shitty friends having bailed on them way too many times.

I definitely meet way more people when I do something solo. I enjoy going out with friends too, but I’m generally more sociable and find more fun things to get into when I’m on my own.

Eh. There’s memories I cherish a thousand times more because I made them with my partner.

But there’s also memories I cherish because they’re mine alone.

For traveling specifically, just having someone with you also isn’t enough; you need to want to do the same things, in roughly the same way.

Yeah, I travelled solo a few times to see if it was for me, and generally it left me feeling very lonely and disconnected from everyone around me, and uncomfortable going anywhere like a restaurant or a bar.

Can’t disagree more. Doing something alone is nowhere near as satisfying and fulfilling as doing them with my partner.

The argument isn’t against doing things with friends or loves ones, but about going by yourself if the alternative is not going at all

Oh, dang, fair enough I guess. I’m definitely on the “I’d rather go alone than not at all” camp. I’ve gone to many a small concert alone, but I always invite people first. If I’m alone, so be it.

Also, I didn’t even realize Lemmy showed cake days, so thank you! Haha

This is 100% true. Do what you want to do. I mean invite everybody you think you can have fun with, but don’t wait on them.

i hate going to things alone. in fact i basically can’t do things at home alone. the only reason i ever do things is that someone else is or will be involved.

I used to hike, bike, and trail run solo. It was fun and freeing, but dangerous. After one too many close calls I don’t do that anymore.

The ideal is to find the right person to go with. Being with someone that you really mesh with, and who moves at the same pace, is 100 times better than going solo.

There are millions of parasites in human body. You are never ever truly alone

Sometimes I have little philosophical debates with my lower intestine friend but usually we prefer topics easier to digest

Going to things alone is awesome.

If I’m with other people I feel more like a tour guide. I’ve never been on vacation with other people where it didn’t feel like that.

I’ve seen my favorite band solo more times than most people have gone to concerts. Easier to meet stinky hippies

Do this ESPECIALLY if it’s a D’n’B all-nighter, if you’re lucky enough to still have those around! They always have precisely zero expectations, because everyone’s there to get a kick of aural Speed and do some angry-dancing for a while. To date, it’s one of the very few social contexts which don’t make me anxious!
