Never used a meta platform, never going to start using one. Best decision of my life.
I had a Facebook account back in 2009. I could already see where is was going, so deleted that shit while that was still an option.
For the top half, the person on the left is quoting the “Meta Verified” sentence: there is a line going from the person to the text box. For the bottom half, the person on the left is just saying “I’m goth”.
This is surely commenting on the fact that an account can be a Meta Verified subscriber or notable person or brand, but uncool people will still argue about whether they’re really a goth despite that.
I’m still not really sure what being verified has to do with goth gatekeeping though. I would expect a gatekeeper to gatekeep completely independent of some random meta verified tag. I mean gatekeeping is stupid, but verified seems completely irrelevant to it.
Me brain too smol
I think it’s something to do with verified accounts being a form of gatekeeping, similar to what many goth people do…
maybe?
I think the joke simply is that the popup matches very well (spatially), but maybe not in content.
You have to be goth to get it
I can confirm: nope.
Yeah, I don’t think I get it either…
