I’ve been told that this is an American thing.
Manspreading maybe, but not closing your legs goes back all through the victorian time and beyond.
You’ve been told a lot if things to be american that aren’t (judging by YT videos titled something akin to “X Things YOU Thought Were AMERICAN But AREN’T!”)
I was told by Americans in Germany that it’s at least much less common/gendered in Germany than the US.
